| LAS VEGAS - Patrick Luke, of Rochester, NY has received
special honors in the semi-annual International Wedding and Portrait
Photography Awards program for the first half of 2002. Sponsored by
Wedding and Portrait Photographers International (WPPI), this members-only
competition is held to give recognition to outstanding achievement in
photography.
Luke's exquisite print, "Timeless Commitment" won an Honorable Mention in the Child category. Luke received high scores for the immediate visual impact and technical excellence. Luke competed against photographers from all over the world to win such honors. WPPI is an organization dedicated to advancing the art of wedding and portrait photography. Its international membership participates in a variety of programs and activities designed to improve artistry, technical skills and sales abilities. |

Comment by Luke Photography: This is a self-portrait that I created
with my 3-yr. old daughter, Holly. Having meaningful portraits of my
children is very important for me, especially since the unexpected death of
my first daughter, Sarah. I had planned to ask another accomplished
photographer that I trusted to create a portrait of myself with Holly that showed the
bond between us. Instead, I decided to try it once
myself. The result was better than I would have expected from anyone
else. I decided to enter the image into the contest, with thoughts
that it may score well, because it was a well-executed photograph. It
was a pleasant surprise to learn that it garnered an Honorable Mention among
all the international entries. The portrait itself was a prize for the
father in me...the award was the icing on the cake for the photographer in
me. |
